Advancing Research in Extreme Environment Medicine

Research Centre

The Academy supports the advancement of extreme environment medicine by creating research opportunities that build the field’s research capacity and promote the dissemination of evidence-based knowledge to inform both policy and clinical practice.
01

Connect

We facilitate collaborative research projects by connecting researchers, clinicians, and institutions to explore critical issues in extremes.
02

Support

We mentor and support emerging researchers by offering training, guidance, and opportunities to build research capacity within the field.
03

Fund

We provide research grants and funding to support the growth of innovative studies that expand the field’s growing knowledge base.
04

Promote

We publish and promote plain text research summaries to ensure evidence-based findings inform clinical practice and policy development.
05

Host

We host conferences and seminars that exchange ideas to enhance professional development through the sharing of cutting-edge research.
06

Policy

We engage with policy makers and stakeholders to translate research outcomes into practical, impactful policies and operational strategies.
INNOVATIVE RESEARCH

Current Research Projects

Improvised Laryngoscopy

This project explores the effectiveness and safety of improvised laryngoscopy techniques using readily available tools in resource-poor environments where standard airway equipment is not accessible.

Field intubation skills

This project investigates the first-pass intubation success rates of non-clinical team members in high-stress or remote environments to assess feasibility, safety, and potential training requirements.

Wilderness Skills

This project evaluates the applicability and impact of wilderness first aid skills training for healthcare providers in low-GDP health clinics to enhance emergency response in resource-limited settings.

Water Purification

This project examines the effectiveness of various water purification techniques to ensure safe and reliable water for clinical interventions in austere or resource-limited environments.
